jungle juice + almond milk = gorilla juice

I thought I’d start my first post in my ‘happy, healthy living and eating’ series with a bang…King Kong style!

It’s a powerful lean muscle builder and provides huge amounts of natural energy/fuel for your body. Ideal for pre and post workout drinks. I’ve made some slight changes to the original recipe which adds even more nutritional value and improves the taste.

ALMOND MILK
Ingredients
1 cup of RAW almonds (not roasted)
3 cups of water
1 teaspoon of Pink Himalayan Rock Salt (full of nutritious minerals)

OR buy a good quality, organic almond milk from your local

Method
1 – Place almonds in a large bowl and soak in the 3 cups of water and salt for about 24 hours
2 – Try to rinse the almonds every 6 or so hours, readding 3 cups of water each time – this method helps to draw out the vital enzymes needed to penetrate your cells with the goodness of this juice
3 – After about 24 hours, put in blender/food processor (along with 1 cup of water to begin with, slowly adding more as required) and turn into a milk. You may find you have sand sized almonds left in the mixture – personally, I keep it this way, adding texture to the drink and ensuring I dont lose any nutritional value. If you’d like it to be liquid only, then just pour through a very fine strainer and only keep the milk.

JUNGLE JUICE
Ingredients
4 Kale leaves
1 bunch of spinach
1 bunch of parsley
5-7 celery sticks
2 granny smith apples
1/2 a cucumber
1/2 a head of broccoli
2 slices of pineapple (optional for sweetness)

Method
Cut the ingredients into a manageable size for your juicer, then juice them all together.

A cold press juicer is always your best option – try to avoid centrifugal juicers as you’ll achieve inferior results with a lower juice yield and a less nutritional juice all round with less of the vital enzymes.

The plug: I get very low prices on top brand slow juicers so just comment below if you’re interested

COCONUT WATER
Either make your own from a real coconut and it’s flesh or buy a good quality, pre-made one (Cocobella (@drinkcocobella) is good) – Josie loves it!

Coconut water has so much nutritional value – check this out to get yourself up-to-speed thanks to the New Health Hub.

TO FINISH IT OFF – THE GORILLA JUICE!
Add an even ratio of each of the above to a blender along with some chia seeds and LSA mix (this will thinken it up), blend and serve as cold as possible.

You can even try adding kefir if you like 🙂
